Can I write something up for an earlier day?

Yes — useful when you did not get to the journal on the night, or want to write up a trip afterwards.

1. Open the Calendar tab.
2. Tap the day you want to write about.
3. Capture from there, by voice or by typing.

The entry is filed under that day rather than today.
